CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—This city has topped other Mindanao cities in terms of local revenue dependency for 2016.

According to a report released by the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF), Cagayan de Oro City sourced 51.39 percent of its revenue from local sources for that period.

Tagum City came next with 45.93 percent. Davao City, the biggest local government unit on the island in terms of land area, came in third at 41.93 percent, said the BLGF report released Wednesday.

Cagayan de Oro has consistently topped the list for the past three years, the BLGF noted, after successfully grabbing the spot from Tagum City in 2013, the year that Mayor Oscar Moreno took over as chief executive of the city.

Cagayan de Oro ranked 16th nationwide with the top 15 spots all dominated by Luzon and Visayas cities. Topping the NCR-exempted list was Laguna’s Sta. Rosa City with 68.8 percent revenue sourced locally.

At the municipal level, the industrial town of Villanueva in Misamis Oriental ranked second place at 68.1 percent in 2016, while neighboring Tagoloan is at third (50.91 percent).

Of the 14 provinces in Mindanao, Bukidnon topped the list of locally sourced revenue dependency at 24.26 percent. (PNA/Mark D. Francisco)
