BAGUIO CITY – To facilitate the resolution of cases involving public transport, the city council is mulling the approval of an ordinance requiring all public utility vehicles, government-owned vehicles and certain types of vehicles here to install a high-resolution dashboard camera.

The proposed ordinance, approved on first reading during the last council session, was co-authored by Councilors Benny Bomogao, Michael Lawana and Faustino Olowan.

The measure was filed pursuant to the local government’s mandate to ensure the safety of the citizens and property from unscrupulous individuals with ill motives.

Upon approval, the installation and use of a dashboard camera would be mandatory in public utility vehicles, including application-based transportation service, government-owned vehicles, and other vehicle types.

The proposal mentioned that the use of a dashboard camera system as a recording device shall be in compliance with the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012. (PNA)
