MANILA -- The Philippine Airlines (PAL) on Friday settled its unpaid air navigational charges worth PHP6 billion to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

In a statement, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said that PAL, through its Vice President for Legal Affairs Clara de Castro, submitted their checks to the CAAP office in Pasay City to settle its obligations to the government.

The turnover of checks was witnessed by DOTr Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Manuel Antonio Tamayo, Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Procurement Reinier Paul Yebra, and Assistant Secretary for Communications Leah Quiambao.

The airline’s payment was made earlier than the December 2017 deadline.

Last month, PAL said it has agreed to settle the claims as a manifestation of its trust and confidence in the Duterte administration. (ABP/PNA)
