Foton beats Generika in PH Superliga Grand Prix

MANILA -- Defending champion Foton played true to form on Saturday to prevail over Generika-Ayala, 25-22, 25-22, 25-16, in the Chooks to-Go Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City.

Serbian import Sara Klisura had 15 kills and three aces in leading the Tornadoes to their third win. Locals Jaja Santiago, Maika Ortiz and import Dragana Perunicic from Montenegro chipped in eight points each.

Foton coach Moro Branislav said he wanted his team to get better.

“I’m not very happy with the result. The team still needs to get better. We want to be in good condition by the quarterfinals. Maybe if we get a 3-0 win in quarterfinals, I'll be happier,” said Branislav in a statement released by the PSL to the media Sunday.

Croatian Katarina Pilepic finished with 15 attacks, a block and an ace for the Lifesavers, who absorbed their second loss in four outings.

Meanwhile. Cocolife rallied past Cignal HD, 19-25, 24-26, 27-25, 25-15, 15-9, to post its first win in the tournament.

American imports Taylor Milton and Tai Manu-Olevao saved the day for the Asset Managers with their explosive performances.

Milton, a graduate of Santa Clara University, scored 25 points while Manu-Olevao added 23 points, including 20 attacks. Local Ging Balse contributed 11 points.

American import Alexis Mathews had 16 kills and four blocks while Australian Beth Carey scored 13 points for the HD Spikers, who absorbed their second loss against two wins Locals Honey Royse Tubino and Jovelyn Gonzaga scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. (PNA)
