PASIG CITY -- About 1,500 coaches from 80 cities across the nation converged at the Ynares Sports Arena for the MVP Sports Foundation Coaches Convention in collaboration with the SM NBTC League.

The sixth edition of the said convention, which started Tuesday and will run until Thursday, officially started the SM NBTC season, where the top high school basketball teams in the Philippines collide.

SBP executive director Sonny Barrios gave the opening remarks, while Gilas head coach Chot Reyes gave a talk about some essentials for a coach to become successful.

Renowned sportswriter and commentator Quinito Henson also provided a speech about how a coach should communicate with his players, his fellow coaches, the team management, the media, and even the referees.

Also to provide talks in the coming days are Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin, Alab mentor Jimmy Alapag, fitness expert Chappy Callanta, and Australian coach Brett Coxsedge, who will give a separate talk in each of the three days of the seminar.

"We are excited to have someone of the caliber of Coach Brett teaching in the SM NBTC," said Coach Eric Altamirano, the director of the SM NBTC. (ISS/PNA)
