LEGAZPI CITY -- Local government units in Albay are now on alert for the possible impact of tropical depression 'Salome'.
This after state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 in the province.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of Albay is closely monitoring the situation and the direction of the tropical depression.
With this, Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara has ordered the suspension of classes and class activities in all levels in the entire province.
He also ordered Albayanos not to go on fishing, sailing and crossing of rivers to ensure their safety.
The PDRRMC advisory issued at 8:00 a.m. Thursday directed the Philippine Coast Guard (PSG) to carry out the "no sailing" policy in various ports in Albay.
The "no sailing" policy prohibits all types of seacrafts to sail due to the bad weather.
Bichara also ordered the early decampment of the on-going Provincial Jamborette held in barangay Lidong, Sto Domingo town.
The advisory warned villagers living in river channels and steep slopes to be on high alert for possible flooding and landslide.
Villagers were advised to be prepared for evacuation once the bad weather worsens.
Bichara directed all local disaster council in the 15 towns and three cities of the province to be on heightened alert status. (PNA)
