Penalosa, Amit make weight in Palawan for WBC bout

PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan --- Youthful Carlo Cesar Penalosa and Salatiel Amit both made their weights Thursday for their much-awaited championship fight for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver flyweight title at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum.

Both of then tipped the scales with identical 112 lbs. at the official weigh-in held at the SM Puerto Princesa.

“One hundred percent ready na si Carlo. Nakapag sparring din siya ng mabuti (Carlo is one hundred percent ready. He had also a good sparring),” said Penalosa’s uncle and trainer Jonathan Penalosa, brother of former two-division world champion Gerry Penalosa, who is also promoting the said title-fight.

It is one of the five championships featured in the boxing card held as part of the 55th OPBF Annual Convention which started also yesterday.

Amit’s chief trainer Julius Junco, however, said that they are very much ready to beat Penalosa.

“Sisirain naming ang style nya,” (We will destroy his style), said Junco.

Amit has trained more than three months for this fight at the Omega Gym in Cebu.

“Amit is a good boxer and has more experience than Carlo. But we have done all we can in training in order to win the fight,” said Penalosa, also one of the assistant Filipino trainers of Team Manny Pacquiao.

Penalosa now has nine wins against one loss with three knockouts while Amit is toting 10 wins, 3 losses, 2 draw and seven knockouts.
