BACOLOD CITY -- The Negros Occidental provincial government on Thursday released PHP360,000 worth of checks to beneficiaries of the Barangay Insurance Program for barangay tanods, officials, and employees.

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. advised the beneficiaries not to lose hope in life despite losing their loved ones.

The governor led the distribution of checks to the family members of the insured councilmen and tanods in the presence of their authorized barangays officials in rites held at the Provincial Capitol here.

The recipients were from the cities of San Carlos, Sagay and Kabankalan, and municipalities of Salvador Benedicto, Calatrava, Isabela, and Ilog.

"Make good use of the insurance claims and spend it only for your needs," he urged the beneficiaries.

For accidental death of a barangay tanod or official, the beneficiaries will receive PHP100,000 while for natural death, PHP50,000.

The Barangay Insurance Program is being implemented under the Special Programs and Concerns Division of the Provincial Administrator’s Office headed by Ian de Ramos, who also witnessed the turn-over of checks.
