LEGAZPI CITY --- Cargo vessel MV Kitty ran aground on Thursday at the shorelines of Poblacion Sur in Barcelona town in Sorsogon, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Bicol said today.

Claudio Yucot, OCD regional director, said Tropical Storm "Salome", packing 30 to 60-kilometer per hour winds, swept ashore MV Kitty, to the coastal village of Poblacion Sur in Barcelona town.

MV Kitty, with 21 crew members, is reportedly owned by Sherwin Shipping Corp. No one among the crewmen was hurt in the incident.

Barcelona police report said on Friday that a tugboat has been dispatched by the company to pull the cargo vessel back to sea.

Yucot said strong winds spawned by TS Salome swept the vessel, causing damage to a large strip of coral reefs in the area.

OCD report said some 1,000 passengers had been stranded in various ports in Bicol while 20 passenger vessels were not allowed to sail in the port of Matnog.

In Camarines Sur, a fisherman was reported missing while two motorized boats capsized off the waters in Lagonoy, Camarines Sur. (PNA)
