CEBU CITY -- Two suspects in the Talisay City Jail strafing sustained gunshot wounds following a shootout with Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel early Friday morning.

The encounter occurred after the two motorcycle-riding men strafed the gate of the Talisay City Jail at 2 a.m. prompting the jailguards to fire back.

Talisay City Police Station chief, Supt. Jason Villamater, said this is the fourth time the suspects have strafed the jail this year.

The injured suspects, identified as Troy Briones and Arjan,Ababao, were brought to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.

Briones and Ababao reportedly have three other companions who served as lookouts during the strafing incident.

Villamater said several firearms, including a KG9 submachine pistol, and live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

He said they will look deeper behind the strafing to determine their motive or who is behind this criminal act.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-7 chief Jose Mario Espino ordered all police stations in Central Visayas to intensify their campaign against motorcycle-riding criminals.

Espino said he will not hesitate to relieve police chiefs and directors should they fail to curb this kind of incidents in their respective areas. (With reports from Michelle Bugtai/PNA)
