Batangas boosts livelihood program for women

BATANGAS CITY -- The provincial government of Batangas has intensified its knowledge and capacity building and training program for women to help the sector sustain its livelihood and small businesses.

Jenelyn A. Aguilera, Batangas public information office chief, said on Monday the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), through its head Joy Montalbo, has focused on the livelihood project to boost Sectoral Productivity among the lowly earners and those engaged in other alternative livelihood for extra income.

Montalbo said her office has embarked on their packaged programs by conducting three-day orientation, lectures and actual demonstrations reaching out to the barangays and towns as municipal base.

She said that there are center-based projects at the PSWDO where they accept walk-in applicants from Batangas City and also distribute free starter kits.

The services under the program, dubbed “Handog na Kaalaman, Hanap-buhay na Pangmatagalan,” include haircutting, hair treatment, hair rebonding, cosmetology, manicure and pedicure with hand and foot spa.

Aguillera added that the livelihood component under the Governor’s governance thrust with the acronym “HELP” for health, environment, livelihood and protection, also engages livelihood beneficiaries for candle-making, handicrafts making, sewing of eco-bags, curtains, rags, and other crafts and recyclable materials.

She said the knowledge-sharing and capacity building sessions have benefited the towns of Taysan for manicure and pedicure training sessions; San Luis, Balayan and Batangas City for candle-making, manicure and pedicure and would cascade to other cities and towns like Tanauan City, Lobo and Mabini.(PNA)
