MANILA -- The Department of Energy's (DOE) Fuel Economy Run 2017 takes place in Clark, Pampanga on November 20-21.

In cooperation with Petron Corporation, the annual event under the DOE's E-Power Mo campaign is part of the department's mandate of informing the public on the fuel efficiency of vehicles in the market.

Since 2002, the Fuel Economy Run has been a platform for the DOE and motorists to determine the fuel consumption rating of brand-new vehicles based on actual highway driving conditions.

Running on its 13th year, the event is open to most types of vehicles from sedans to sport/utility vehicles (SUV), multi-purpose vehicles (MPV), and pickup trucks from different manufacturers.

Entries are divided into two main categories -- gasoline and diesel-powered.

Each vehicle will be run by a crew consisting of a driver, navigator, and an auditor, who ensures that the performance and settings of the vehicle throughout the entire run are according to the activity's guidelines.

With the starting line or flag-off point set at the Petron Service Station in Clark, the vehicles and their crew will make their way through the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Exchange (SCTEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Exchange (TPLEX) Binalonan, where they make a U-turn going back to Clark, covering a total distance of 216.6 kilometers.

Fuel economy rating for each vehicle will be recorded as kilometers-per-liter and results will be announced immediately after the event.

Each year, the Fuel Economy Run gains a bigger following, that automotive companies realize the positive impact fuel efficiency on their vehicles and how consumers start to consider this as one of the main criteria in vehicle selection. (PNA)
