TUGUEGARAO CITY -- There would be no price hike for “Noche Buena” items and other commodities this Christmas and New Year in Cagayan Valley, said the Department of Trade and Industry-Region 2 on Monday.

DTI-02 information officer Manilyn Ponce said there are no indications and reasons for price hikes this season because oil prices in the world market continue to go down.

There were no movement on prices of canned goods, processed foods and other grocery items based on their recent monitoring, Ponce said.

"Prices of ‘Noche Buena’ items such spaghetti pasta, ham, macaroni, sauce, fruit cocktail, all-purpose cream, milk and others did not increase, however we continue with our monitoring activity of business establishments," Ponce added.

Meanwhile, Department of Agriculture-Region 2 information officer Hector Tabbon also said there are no reasons for any price increase on agricultural products this season and until the first quarter of next year because of oil price rollbacks.

"Only prices of local products such as lowlands vegetables which were affected by the recent flood and typhoon have increased,” Tabbon said.

He urged the consumers to remain vigilant on price manipulation and learn to choose quality and safe products at lesser prices. (PNA)
