DAVAO CITY – The Games and Amusements Board has named Jeronil “El Diamante” Borres and Carl James “Wonder Boy” Martin as Boxers of the Month for November and December, respectively.

Borres (8W-3L-1D, 5 KOs) of Cagayan de Oro City earned the monthly award for scoring an upset over reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) Youth flyweight champion Robert Onggocan via a majority decision last November 10 at the Puerto Princesa Coliseum in Palawan to capture the vacant Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) flyweight crown.

The 22-year-old boxer from Highland Boxing Gym in La Trinidad, Benguet is set to take on unbeaten Junto Nakatani on January 20 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

18-year-old James Martin (7W-0L, 6 KOs) of Ifugao, on the other hand, got the award for bagging the interim WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental bantamweight title, where he stopped Artid Bamrungauea via a second round knockout last December 23 in Lagawe.

Meanwhile, newly-crowned WBC Asian Boxing Council super bantamweight champion Glenn “The Rock” Porras was cited as the honorable mention over his knockout win against Indonesian Noldi Manakane in the first boxing round last November 25 at the UM Gym in Tagum City.

Porras (31W-6L-0D, 19 KOs) of MB NorthStar Boxing Stable in Panabo City is scheduled to fight in a world title-eliminator against Mexican Emanuel Navarrete on January 20 in Mexico.

The monthly ratings were spearheaded by GAB Chairman Abraham Kahlil “Baham” Mitra at the GAB main office. (PNA)
