ILOILO CITY -- Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. and 41 mayors in the province of Iloilo have confirmed their attendance to the meeting with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on February 12 at Radisson Blu, Cebu City.

In an unnumbered memorandum from the Department of Interior and Local Government Western Visayas (DILG-6) dated January 29, all provincial governors, city and municipal mayors of the region were requested to attend the President’s meeting with the local chief executives for Visayas and Mindanao.

Iloilo province is composed of 42 towns and Passi City as its component city.

In an interview, DILG-Iloilo provincial director Teodora Sumagaysay said that only two of the mayors have not confirmed their attendance to the meeting after Thursday noon deadline for confirmation.
Mayors Oscar Garin of Guimbal and Jason Gonzales of Lambunao failed to confirm their attendance.

Citing the memorandum, Sumagaysay stressed that “no confirmation, no entry at the venue.”

Gonzales said that he did not confirm yet as he is still finalizing his schedule.

“There are a lot of activities, plans and things that need to be finished,” he said.

Gonzales hoped that DILG would extend the deadline as he is planning to finally decide on Friday.

He will attend, though, the meeting of the National League of Municipalities of the Philippines on March 21, where Duterte is also expected to be the guest of honor. (PNA)
