MANILA -- The Philippine National Police announced the five winners of its "PNP Model Families 2017" during flag-raising ceremonies Monday at Camp Crame, Quezon City.

The contest was organized by the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) in cooperation with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and other stakeholders,

In a statement, PNP spokesperson Chief Supt. John Bulalacao said the "PNP Model Families 2017" seeks to potray the police officer as a leader and partner in keeping peaceful and well-secured communities.

Meanwhile, NAPOLCOM commissioner and executive officer, Atty. Rogelio Casurao, said the search for model families started in 2011.

The search committee is composed of members from the Foundation for Crime Prevention, Inc. (FCP), Crusade Against Violence (CAV), DILG, and PNP-Directorate for Police Community Relations.

The 2017 Most Outstanding Model PNP Family is Insp. Danielo P. Jacosalem and Senior Insp. Rowena Jacosalem and Family from Compostela Valley Police Station who showcased generosity and charitable work in the community.

Rowena, a Women and Children Protection Desk office, was also featured in “Wish Ko Lang aired in March 2017 for her invaluable service to the people of Compostela Valley.

The Jacosalem family received PHP150,000 and a Plaque of Recognition from the search committee.

Meanwhile, SPO4 Dennis A. Juan and his family is the 1st runner up model family from Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office, Police Regional Office 1 for their significant contribution to the community and police service.

The Juan family’s initiative, the “Lingap Pasasalamat” project, has been helping less fortunate children since 1998 that pushes positive impact to the lives of many residents in the community.

They also received PHP120,000 and a Plaque of Recognition. While the 2nd runner-up award goes to Senior Insp. Marvin C. Cajegas and Family from Iligan City Police Station 4, PRO 10.

The Cajegas family has been actively engaged in church ministry and in various outreach programs in jails and barangay. They received PHP100,000 and a plaque of recognition.

While SPO3 Edgardo A. Figuracion II and Family from Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Health Service, PRO 9, is the 3rd-runner up.

The former actively participates in barangay and church-sponsored medical missions as volunteers.

For the the 4th runner up, the award has been given to Insp. Annie A. Decano and family from Palauig Municipal Police Station, PRO 3, who regularly lead in the feeding and gift-giving programs for the poor families in their barangay.

“The annual nationwide search primarily aims to highlight the image of the police as a family-based institution and emphasizes the importance of strong family ties in the overall performance of the police a law enforcer,” Casurao said. (PNA)
