DSWD extends P2.96-M to ‘Basyang’-affected families

MANILA -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said the combined cost of assistance for people affected by Tropical Storm Basyang in western, central and eastern Visayas, and Caraga totaled PHP2,962,916.94.

In its Report No. 7 issued Thursday, the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) said that of the amount, PHP2,801,016.94 came from DSWD and PHP161,900 from local government units.

The report also said 10,559 families or 41,209 persons are currently staying in 217 evacuation centers in the affected regions, while 472 families or 2,278 persons are staying with families and friends in Central Visayas and Caraga.

Meanwhile, DSWD Officer-in-Charge Emmanuel Leyco assured the public that the department has ample resources even as it continues its intensive relief operations in Bicol for families affected by the eruption of Mayon Volcano. (PNA)
