MANILA -- President Rodrigo R. Duterte has appointed former Manila Vice Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso as Undersecretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Duterte signed Domagoso’s appointment paper on Tuesday but it was only released to the media on Wednesday.

Domagoso is best known for his screen name Isko Moreno. He was Manila's Vice Mayor for three consecutive terms and ran for senator in 2016 but lost.

In July 2017, Duterte appointed Domagoso as chairman of the North Luzon Railways Corp. (NLRC). However, he resigned in October the same year due to undisclosed reasons.

In a statement sent to media, Domagoso said that he was “thankful” for once again being trusted by the President.

“I am grateful for the renewed trust given to me by our President Duterte,” Domagoso said.

Domagoso said he knew that being DSWD Undersecretary is a big responsibility but assured that he will do what he can in his power to help poor Filipinos.

He said that he had no plans to run as Manila mayor next year.

Aside from Domagoso, Duterte also appointed Antonio Joselito Gabor Lambino II as Assistant Secretary of the Department of Finance.

Lambino, better known as Tony Lambino, is a former child actor and original member of ‘80s singing group Smokey Mountain.

Prior to his appointment, he was head of the public policy unit at the conglomerate Ayala Corporation.

Duterte also appointed Sherwin Smith Rigor as Undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Gerard Melocoton Camiña as member of the board of directors of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority. (PNA)
