VIRAC, Catanduanes --  A provincial Commission of Elections (Comelec) officer on Tuesday said the conduct of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in the island province of Catanduanes was generally peaceful and successful.

“We have no report of any untoward incident from the 315 barangays of the entire province and we attribute that to the vigilance of local residents in watching over the peace and order of their respective localities,” provincial election officer Atty. Maria Aurea Bo-Bunao said in an interview.

The Catanduanes-Comelec reported that 98 percent of the 315 barangay winners were already proclaimed.

"Only three barangays from Virac, San Miguel and Viga were not yet proclaimed since they need to break the tie, maybe in the afternoon today we are already 100 percent done,” said Bo-Bunao.

She added the entire province has 181,345 voters for barangay elections, and 79,102 voters for Sangguniang Kabataan elections. (PNA)
