LAOAG CITY -- Residents here are encouraged to support local entrepreneurs here by buying their products.

As part of the year-long bicentennial celebration of the Ilocos Norte, around 80 micro, small and medium entrepreneurs display their own unique products and services until May 22 at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena.

In his speech during the opening of the “Tienda ni Gob” bicentennial trade fair, Senior Board Member Matthew Joseph Manotoc on Thursday said people of Ilocos Norte need to support local products, which are proudly made in Ilocos.

“An event like this brings us great pride and great opportunity. An opportunity that is both commercial and cultural. Let this be a reminder that we should buy local products as much as we can,” he said.

Manotoc asked more resourceful and enterprising Ilocanos to create more home-made products, which are expected to make way in the local and international markets.

During the event, research and extension providers from the different national government line agencies and local government units from the 21 towns and two cities of the province, including private seed companies, shared their best practices and technological breakthroughs in agriculture and fisheries development.

This was attended by farmer-cooperators and other stakeholders who were willing to partner and adopt technologies, programs and services geared towards economic growth. (PNA)
