GUIZHOU, China – Global leaders convened to tackle the importance of green development in pursuing feasible and sustainable growth during the Eco Forum Global Annual Conference 2018 in Guiyang City on July 6-8.

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the Eco Forum which zooms in on green home as the future of humankind.

"Ecological conservation concerns the future of the humankind, and it's the common goal of all nations to build a green home," Xi said in the letter.

According to Xi, China is willing to work with the international community to build an ecological system that respects nature and features green development, in a bid to pursue global sustainable development.

“We are ready to work with the international community to fully implement the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and jointly build a clean and beautiful world,” Xi stated in his letter.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in his video message, hailed the effort of China to incorporate the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Paris Agreement on climate change into national policy and in using the platform as opportunity for climate action.

“Climate change is unfortunately moving faster than we are. I encourage you to use this important Forum to explore how to increase climate ambition, reduce urban air pollution and seize the opportunity of climate action. The United Nations will continue to work with China and other partners to build a low-emission, sustainable and resilient future for all,” Gutteres said in his video message.

Sun Chulan, Vice Premier of the State Council of People’s Republic of China, said the forum remains committed in promoting ideas of eco-civilization as well as the tradition of China in respecting and protecting nature.

“We are always committed to be resource efficient and environmental friendly. In the last five years under the guidance of Xi Jinping’s thought on Eco-Civilization, we have introduced 40 specific items of reforms,” the official said.
