MANILA -- Tropical Storm Henry (international name, Son-Tinh) will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon on Wednesday, the state weather bureau said.

In a weather forecast Tuesday afternoon, Ariel Rojas, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said “Henry” is still enhancing the southwest monsoon and will bring rains in Luzon within the next 24 hours.

Henry left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Son-Tinh, which is moving west at 45 km. per hour (kph), was last spotted 700 km. west of Basco Batanes as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.

PAGASA weather forecaster Nikos Peñaranda told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in a phone interview the tropical storm is heading towards the province of Hainan in southern China, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

Monsoon rains are expected in Metro Manila, Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mindoro provinces, and Palawan.

PAGASA warned of possible flooding and landslides due to light to moderate with occasional heavy rains in these areas.

The southwest monsoon will further bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in other parts of Luzon and Visayas.

The bureau similarly warned of possible flooding and landslides caused by light to moderate, and at times, heavy rains.

Mindanao, however, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to local thunderstorms.
PAGASA cautioned of possible flooding and landslides caused by light to moderate, and at times, heavy rains.

On Tuesday, it also issued an orange rainfall warning in Bataan and Zambales from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A yellow rainfall warning, on the other hand, was issued in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Metro Manila, and Pampanga until 8 p.m.

The state weather bureau also issued a gale warning for Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Lubang Island, Palawan, and Calamian group of islands due to winds blowing from the southwest. These areas will have rough to very rough coastal waters.

Other parts of Luzon will have moderate to rough coastal waters, still due to moderate to strong winds coming from the southwest.
Visayas and Mindanao will also have moderate to rough coastal waters blown by moderate to strong winds from the south to southwest.

PAGASA forecasts a temperature range of 15°C to 33°C until Saturday.

On Tuesday, it recorded a peak temperature of 25.5°C and a minimum temperature of 24.8°C.

As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, another low-pressure area (LPA) was spotted 805 km. east of Tuguegarao, within the Philippine area of responsibility.

Rojas said PAGASA expects the LPA to turn into a typhoon in the next 36 hours. (PNA)
