ILOILO CITY - - The election of the Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) provincial federation on Monday was orderly and went smoothly, Teodora Sumagaysay, provincial director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Iloilo, said.
All candidates, except for the board of directors, were unopposed.
Meanwhile, only eight of the nine candidates who ran were chosen to sit as board of directors.
Iloilo province is composed of 42 towns and one component city.
Sumagaysay said only William Centina Sr., LnB municipal federation president from Calinog, was absent during the election because he just had a surgery.
Garnering 40 votes, Dorothy Paes of the village of Bulabog, Dumangas, Iloilo was declared president.
Elected vice-president was Neptali Salcedo Jr.; auditor, Andres Bedro; and the board of directors were Jerry Tuares, Edna Miane, Ferdinand Esmejarda, Lyka Joy Debuque-Gelle, Sancho Navarro Jr., Domingo Alabra, Lorenzo Puda and Sebastian Salcedo.
Sumagaysay said the newly-elected officers are expected to promote programs and projects for the total development of every village in the province.
“They should also support the effort of our national government in the campaign against crime and corruption and to promote decency, integrity and honesty in the barangay,” she added.
Paes is a last-termer village chief.
In her speech, she vowed to “work with utmost transparency and integrity”.
“I will help address the advance issues affecting respective barangays in the province of Iloilo,” she said.
Paes said they have yet to schedule their oath-taking.
She is set to join the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in their regular session next week as an ex-officio member and chairman of the Committee on Barangay Affairs.
The election of LnB provincial federation was held at the Casa Real Iloilo. (PNA)
