CALUMPIT, Bulacan — House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday turned over to the municipal government here brand new dredging equipment that can help address the perennial flooding problem in this town.
The turnover of the PHP45-million multi-purpose Amphibious dredger and backhoe was done in time for the start of a dredging operation at Bagbag Bridge in Barangay Iba Este here.
Bulacan First District Rep. Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the former President, now House Speaker Arroyo, for granting the local government’s request for the equipment.
"Malaking tulong ito sa mamamayan ng Calumpit na naapektuhan ng malawakang pagbaha tuwing may kalamidad (This is a big help to the people of Calumpit who are affected by massive flooding every time there is calamity," the lawmaker said.
Also present during the turnover of the dredging equipment were acting Governor Daniel R. Fernando; Calumpit Mayor Jessie de Jesus; Hagonoy Vice Mayor Pedro Santos; and Mayor’s League president, Guiguinto Mayor Ambrosio Cruz Jr. (PNA)
