MANILA -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Saturday reiterated its call to senior high school students to apply for the agency’s Undergraduate Scholarship Program.

Ang isa kong hamon ay iyong ating mga kabataan na talagang may interes at may kagalingan sa (One of my challenges to the youth, who are really interested and have talent in) science and mathematics, is to try our scholarship program,” DOST Fortunato dela Peña said in a radio interview over Radyo Pilipinas.

Earlier, dela Peña said more S&T (science and technology) professionals are needed in addressing a number of national concerns.

He pointed out that students will be given PHP40,000 worth of education assistance for tuition and other school fees per academic year; PHP 10,000 book allowance per year, and PHP7,000 monthly living allowance or stipend.

Alam po ninyo mataas na ang aming stipends – PHP 7,000 a month na ngayon at marami pang iba na benepisyo. So sa mga kabataan lalo na sa mga mahihirap na pamilya ay sikapin po natin (You know, we have high stipends--PHP7,000 a month and other benefits),”

According to the DOST, the scholarship is open to graduating students of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) strand and non–STEM students belonging to the upper top five percent of the graduating class, who want to pursue a college degree on Basic and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Science and Mathematics Teaching.

Interested applicants can download the application form at the official website of DOST – www.dost.gov.ph

Dela Peña said the nationwide examinations will be on Oct. 21, 2018. (PNA)
