DUMAGUETE CITY - A two-classroom building worth PHP2 million was turned over Monday to the Batinguel Elementary School here by the Angat Buhay Foundation of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) in partnership with Luzon Brokerage Corporation (LBC) and Philam Foundation.

Present during the turnover ceremony were LBC executive director Nena Wuthrich, Philam Foundation president Max Ventura, and Angat Buhay Program head Jil Campo Javiniar.

The recipients of the donation are the Grades 3 and 4 pupils of Batinguel Elementary School, headed by its principal, Barsilisa Patrimonio.

Dumaguete Mayor Felipe Remollo and Department of Education city schools division superintendent Dr. Evangel Luminarias were on hand to receive the donation.

The two-classroom school building is complete with plastic chairs and a comfort room.

In his message during the turnover, Mayor Remollo said poverty should not be a hindrance to success. He cited the story of a little boy from Barangay Banilad here, whom he helped 18 years ago during his first term as mayor. The boy, he said, graduated summa cum laude from Silliman University, studied at Harvard University in the United States and is now a professor at the University of the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the Angat Buhay program of the Office of the Vice President is already in 176 communities all over the country, according to Javiniar.

Remollo said Dumaguete is a special place in the heart of Angat Buhay because Vice President Leni Robredo won by a huge margin in the city and province.

The mayor also thanked Philam Foundation and LBC for their goodness.

Javiniar disclosed that it was LBC executive director Wuthrich, who is from Dumaguete, who came up with the proposal to extend help to the education sector.

The latest donation is Angat Buhay's fourth in Dumaguete.

Javiniar explained that the Angat Buhay is a program of the Office of the Vice President to help the poor, a promise that Robredo made when she took her oath in 2016. (PNA)
