ILOILO CITY – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) inaugurated its PHP5-million provincial office building and released post-harvest facilities to target farmer’s associations to kick off the regional celebration of the Fish Conservation Week, Tuesday.

In an interview, BFAR Regional Director Remia A. Aparri said that the provincial fishery office will house their technical staff for Iloilo.

“This is significant because there will be a venue where Ilonggo fisherfolks can coordinate and discuss matters related to fisheries,” she said.

She assured that the regional office of the BFAR “is still there that will support the provincial level, especially at the local government units”.

Following the inauguration, BFAR also released post-harvest kits to fisherfolk associations in the coastal towns of Ajuy, Banate, Barotac Nuevo, Carles, San Dionisio, San Joaquin and Tigbauan.

Each of the recipient fisherfolk association received five units of 70-liter capacity insulated box; five units of 10-kilogram capacity weighing scale and 15 units of 75-liter capacity, molded plastic round banyera.
