BAGUIO CITY -- Zamboanga City came alive in the second half to trample Mandaue, 79-61, in the final of the Batang Pinoy boys’ basketball tournament at the St. Louis University Gym on Friday.
Down for most of the first half, the Zamboangueños outscored the Cebuanos, 48-23, in the final 20 minutes to pull away for good.
Vince Waminal led Zamboanga City with 19 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
In the girls' final, Cebu City pulled off a similar late breakaway to beat Pangasinan, 72-62.
The Cebuanas took over in the final period en route to the cruise control.
On the other hand, Pangasinan blasted Olongapo, 99-73, for the boys’ bronze, while Cebu province trounced Zamboanga City, 66-55, for the girls’ bronze. (PNA)
