ILOILO CITY -- Iloilo City received two firefighting pump cars from the Africa Asia Development Relief Foundation (ADRF), a non-governmental organization that implements various projects to support local communities in selected countries.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council) on Tuesday authorized Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III to sign a deed of donation on behalf of the city government with the ADRF represented by its chairman, Kwon Yi Jong.

Councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo, whose committee reviewed the documents for the proposed donation, said the firetrucks are intended to enhance the capabilities of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in times of disasters and calamities.

“The donation of firetrucks will not only help in the safety of our school children but the whole of Iloilo City,” he added.

Just several months ago, Iloilo City was also a recipient of a firetruck under BFP's modernization plan.

Meanwhile, the city government on Monday turned over to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) two patrol cars to boost its personnel's mobility.

The donations were just two of the 11 units that were committed by the city government to augment the local police's anti-criminality campaign, particularly against illegal drugs.

Senior Supt. Martin Defensor Jr., ICPO director, received the police cars after the flag-raising ceremony held at the Iloilo City Hall. (PNA)
