CAMP MACABULOS, Tarlac City -- The Tarlac Police Provincial Office (TPPO) on Wednesday celebrated the 147th birthday of the province's liberator, the late General Francisco Macabulos, in a simple yet significant way.

Senior Supt. Ritchie Medardo Posadas, TPPO provincial director, led the celebration with the theme "Bayaning kapulisan at mamamayan Bigkislahing magtulungan Kanlahi'y protektahan gabay ang Sinagtala tungo sa mapayapa at maunlad na pamayanan."

The event was an annual traditional activity paying tribute to one of the heroes of the province as a freer during Spanish regime.

General Macabulos hailed from La Paz town with parents Alejandro Macabulos and Gregoria Soliman.

Historical account said that Macabulos organized the first Katipunan group after he was inducted into the secret society by Ladislao Diwa in 1896 and in 1898, he finally liberated the province.

His patriotism, to date, is in the hearts of Tarlaquenos.

Wednesday's event was graced by Police Regional Office 3 director Chief Supt. Amador Valera Corpus who served as guest of honor and speaker.

Corpus, in an interview, said he is grateful to the TPPO where he also served as provincial director and long-time intelligence officer.

He was able to arrest a number of criminals and busted two shabu or crystal meth laboratories under the leadership of former PNP Chief Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome when he was a TPPO provincial director.

He congratulated the present leadership of Posadas for having numerous accomplishments inside and outside the camp.

"I would like to thank the local stakeholders, particularly the provincial officials led by Governor Susan Yap for sponsoring some valuable projects in this camp," Corpus said.

The projects include motor pool, multi-purpose covered court, Badge of Honor canopy and other projects also inaugurated after the program.

Being a Tarlaqueño and now a PRO3 leader, Corpus appealed to the TPPO supporters to extend their support to the regional command, saying the province has no marker yet in Camp Olivas.

He stressed that the police will continue to uphold its duty of protecting the people from any form of criminality, particularly against illegal drugs.

Corpus said that since the election is fast approaching, the directive of PNP Chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde, is to ensure a safe and fair election.

"Thus, reassigning of police officers are expected, particularly the provincial directors and the towns and cities' chief of police," he said.

The event was also highlighted by the giving of awards to some personalities that made significant contribution to the progress of the TPPO.

The traditional wreath-laying activity was also held participated in by the heirs of General Macabulos, local government units (LGUs), police officers and guests.

Macabulos’ heirs, for their part, said they are grateful for the tribute being given yearly by the TPPO.

They also expressed hope that the province of Tarlac would write more about the life of General Macabulos, which Governor Yap vowed to do soon. (PNA)
