CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY--The city's Regulatory and Complaint Board (RCB) has started inspections on motels and lodging houses following reports of rape and human trafficking cases involving underage children.

Wednesday's inspection was the second time the RCB conducted monitoring of motels, during which RCB members asked registration and other permit documents from the establishments.

Lawyer Edgardo Uy, the RCB chief, said they discovered that some of the inspected establishments failed to comply with basic requirements, such as keeping logbooks and installing Closed-Circuit Televisions (CCTV).

Uy said RCB reminded lodging house owners or operators to require guests to provide identification cards before checking in to ensure that no minors can enter, unless they are with family members.

A week ago, the RCB also visited massage parlors and spas to ensure that the establishments comply with the rules and regulations of the city government.

Uy said the inspections also aim to check whether the workers are of legal age, and were not trafficked for prostitution.

He said RCB started visiting establishments associated with entertainment and recreation, ranging from Internet shops to drinking bars, following complaints of rape and other illegal acts in these facilities. (PNA)
