MANILA -- As a treat to the public, the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (KCC) will host performances, dubbed as "Guerilla K-Night", for free on Dec. 19, 6 p.m. at the Sunlife Amphitheater in BGC, Taguig City.

Traditional contemporary performers from Korea collectively dubbed as UHEE, as well as Arena 2018 International Urban Dance Experience champion, “Aftermath,” and 2018 Pinoy K-pop Star vocal category 2nd Prize winner, Paul Manuel, are among the performers.

UHEE is composed of six young artists from Korea. They are known for their reinterpretation of the Korean traditional percussion music and plays with creative musical techniques to better suit the modern era. The group was awarded as the best Gugak performance for vitalization of Gugak by Seoul City and 2015’s best performance for “Traveling Korean Arts” by the KCC.

"Guerilla K-Night is a one night only event which will be held in a non-traditional setting. In Korea, ‘Guerilla’ means pop-up or surprise events in the TV show program. Normally, Korean artists and idols have this kind of event as a way to surprise and thank their fans," KCC Director Lee Jincheol told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Wednesday.

Guerilla K-Night is a night of Filipino and Korean cultural celebration, he added.

In Korea, Lee said that Hongdae and Myeongdong areas are the very famous spots for Guerilla concerts and people enjoy cultural events in their ordinary lives and in these random spots.

"In the Guerilla K-Night, Filipinos can also experience the Korean culture while walking on the streets," he said.

"We aim to showcase the talents not just of Korean artists but also the Filipinos. UHEE, on the other hand, is known for their reinterpretation of the Korean traditional percussion music. They play with creative musical techniques to better suit the modern ears. This kind of unique and creative technique will definitely catch the Filipinos' attention," the executive pointed out.

The Filipino hip-hop dance team "Aftermath" was also invited to have a special collaboration performance with UHEE.

Lee said this is the first time that KCC is staging a K-Night for the Christmas season, and he is eyeing to stage this every December to thank the Filipinos for supporting KCC events for the whole year.

"I believe that the public can see the Philippines as a good platform for cultural exchange. Through this event, they will experience the Korean culture that they just normally see over the television or Youtube," Lee added. (PNA)
