CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – Former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go said he intends to look into the possibility of extending the terms of incumbent barangay officials.

He made this revelation at the Community Mobilization Project (CMP) orientation for local chief executives, village leaders, police officers and other key local government officials, which took place at the Central Elementary School here on Thursday.

Go said that he already brought before President Rodrigo Duterte the issue of possibly amending the Magna Carta for Barangay Officials as well as reviewing the barangay criminal justice system.

He also called on village leaders to be more selective as to the candidates they will support for this year's midterm elections, stressing they should choose those who genuinely want to be of service.

Meantime, Go said that the President’s legislative agenda also include measures that would encourage localized peace talks in a bid to end insurgency in the countryside once and for all.

He explained that government is willing to make rebel returnees and their families the beneficiaries of its Enhanced Comprehensive Livelihood Integrated Program (ECLIP).

“Promoting localized peace talks is part of President Duterte’s ECLIP program. This will likewise be a priority in my legislative agenda,” Go said in Filipino. (PNA)
