Gunmen shoot Basilan town official in Zambo City

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A Basilan town official was wounded in a drive-by shooting in this southern port city, police said Saturday.

The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. Friday near the golf course in Barangay Calarian, said Chief Supt. Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) director.

Licup identified the victim as Councilor Adzrie Ain Bud, 47, of Maluso municipality, Basilan province.

Bud, who is the Indigenous Peoples’ (IP) representative in the municipal council, is the brother of Maluso Mayor Hanie Bud.

Police investigation showed that Bud was aboard a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with his wife, a security guard, and a driver when repeatedly shot by one of two men riding in tandem on a motorcycle that overtook them.

Police said Bud, who was seated in the front, was hit thrice and was rushed to the hospital for treatment while his companions were unscathed.

Bud and his wife were on their way to visit their relative in Barangay Calarian and were coming from a hotel along Veterans Ave. extension at the time of the incident. (PNA)
