MANILA -- Their respective alma maters may be fierce basketball rivals but Santi Santillan and Anton Asistio set the rivalry aside as they joined forces for Marinerong Pilipino.

Santillan made 18 points, while Asistio added 14, and the Skippers defeated the SMDC-NU Bulldogs, 86-71, in the PBA D-League at the Paco Arena on Tuesday.

The former Green Archer actually finished with a double-double as he too grabbed 13 rebounds along with two assists and two steals.

The former Blue Eagle, on the other hand, made three triples while getting four boards.

"Yun na ang Anton Asistio at Santi Santillan na hinahanap namin (That’s what we are expecting from them)," said coach Yong Garcia.

Marinero outscored SMDC-NU, 28-14, in the second quarter to open a 47-29 lead at halftime.

The Bulldogs responded with a 28-16 third quarter and cut the lead to just six, 63-57, with 10 minutes left.

But the Skippers finally pulled away midway through the fourth with a 15-2 run to open a lead as high as 21, 84-63, at the two-minute warning.

John Galinato made 17 points, three rebounds, and three assists for SMDC-NU, which fell to 0-2.

In the nightcap, the University of Santo Tomas survived a 46-point explosion from Joshua Munzon and subdued AMA, 113-108.
