MANILA -- Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Bin Mohamad will visit the Philippines to meet with President Rodrigo Duterte on March 6-7, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.
According to the department, Mahathir will embark on an official visit at the invitation of the Chief Executive himself.
Duterte will officially welcome the Malaysian leader at a ceremony in Malacañang Palace on March 7.
After this, the two leaders will hold a bilateral meeting to discuss the Philippine-Malaysian cooperation in the political, economic, and people-to-people spheres, and exchange views on topics of mutual importance.
Mahathir is also scheduled to meet with Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House of Representatives Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The DFA said this would be Mahathir’s first visit to the Philippines since he assumed his position as Malaysia's seventh Prime Minister last year and reciprocates Duterte's visit to Kuala Lumpur in July 2018.
The Malaysian leader made official visits to the country in 1987 and 1994 during his previous term as prime minister. (PNA)
