MANILA -- The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday expressed its deepest sympathy to the families of five learners who died in a vehicular accident in Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental.

The accident on Friday morning involved 10 students of Basay National High School and their coach.

The tragic incident claimed the lives of one Grade 7 learner and four Grade 11 learners. Five other Grade 11 learners and their coach are currently in the hospital," the agency said in a statement.

Through its Central Visayas Region Office and Schools Division Office of Bayawan, DepEd provided the victims and their families with the necessary assistance.
