DUMAGUETE CITY -- The plan of the provincial government to establish a modern diagnostic hospital is slowly being realized with the operation of a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH).

Aside from the MRI, the NOPH will acquire a new CT scan machine next month, with funds already allotted for the purpose, to realize part of the 20-year development of the provincial government under the leadership of Governor Roel Degamo.

The equipment are just two of the highly-sophisticated medical equipment needed at NOPH, Degamo told more or less 1,000 barangay health workers, barangay population and development officers of the province's second district during the distribution of their PHP6,000 individual honoraria at the Negros Oriental Convention Center on Monday.

A CT scan uses a computer to process cross-sectional images of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues in the human body. It provides more detailed information than plain X-rays.

The MRI is a type of scan that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body.

Degamo also said that part of the 20-year development plan of the province is to hire doctors who specialize in different fields.

Under the province’s medical scholarship program, those who pass the board exams shall return the favor by serving in the Community Primary Hospitals situated in the hinterland barangays of Negros Oriental, and after three years, they will be encouraged to become specialists in various fields.
