GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- Police operatives arrested a businessman here in an anti-drug operation in a housing village late Friday night.

Brig. Gen. Eliseo Tam Rasco, regional director of the Police Regional Office-12, said in a report on Sunday that suspect Roberto Bonifacio Villa Gan alias “Totong Gan,” 44, was nabbed in a raid at his home along Nursery Road in J. Lansang Village, Purok 18 in Barangay Lagao.

Armed with a search warrant, he said joint operatives swooped down on the house of the suspect at around 11:30 p.m. after confirming the latter’s presence.

The operation was led by elements from the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU) and the city police’s mobile force company and Police Station 3, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Region 12.

During the raid, Lt. Col. Leo Sua, RPDEU-12 chief, said the suspect attempted to escape but was cornered by the operating team.

He said Gan was caught in possession of a .40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun with serial number and loaded with magazine containing seven live ammunitions.

Recovered from the suspect’s house were seven sachets of suspected shabu worth PHP25,000, three improvised glass tubes with traces of the drug, a strip of aluminum foil with traces of shabu, a digital weighing scale and various drug paraphernalia.

Rasco said they are currently determining the involvement of Gan, who reportedly owns a funeral parlor in Davao City, in the illegal drug trade.

He said the RPDEU-12 is looking into the sources or suppliers of the suspect and other possible cohorts.

The suspect will be charged with possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia under Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and violation of the election gun ban. (PNA)
