MANILA -- The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), in partnership with the National Book Development Board (NBDB), will hold a series of activities and contests with the theme, "Book Fiesta", in April.

"Book Fiesta" aims to encourage more people to appreciate Filipino-authored books.

The organizers also want the public to have greater understanding of the significance of intellectual property, and also to maximize the use of social media to help the youth be more interested in the arts through online activities.

Share-a-Book challenge

The public is encouraged to share their favorite book through posting a creative shot and their favorite quote as caption.

This contest aims to encourage participants to share their book recommendations and entice more people to read and buy books.

Entrees shall be posted on Instagram. Best entrees will win book vouchers.

Vlog contest

One can share his or her favorite passages, book lines or characters through uploading a vlog (video blog) on YouTube.

The contest aims to maximize the use of social media. The entree with the most number of views will win book vouchers.

For more details about the mechanics, one may visit the NBDB website, or its official social media accounts.

Book Stop Map launch

The Book Stop Map will contain bookstore locations and book museums across the country. This will be launched on April 4.

An online suggestion box will also be provided so the public could send bookstore recommendations in their area.

Fast facts online, highlighting readership survey results, will be launched on April 4. These fast facts will be posted on NBDB's Facebook and Twitter accounts.

"Book Fiesta" is among the activities in line with the celebration of the National Literature Month this April.

Earlier, NCCA chairman Virgilio Almario told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that the Commission needs to concentrate on activities that would make the public aware of literature. (PNA)
