MANILA -- An international cybersecurity firm launched on Thursday its cloud-based security platform to respond and deter incidents of cyber-attacks on the information systems of business enterprises in the country.

Marc Lainez, Palo Alto Networks Philippines Systems Engineer, said their security product, Cortex, aims to simplify security operations and improve business processes among various enterprises.

“Cortex is trying to harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in its application to cybersecurity. It intends to become a marketplace for future cybersecurity innovations,” Lainez said during a press briefing held on the sidelines of the “Disrupting the Cybersecurity Status Quo” forum in Makati City.

The security platform is enabled by the Cortex Data Lake, wherein customers can store and analyze large amounts of data that is normalized for advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning to find threats and orchestrate responses quickly.

Palo Alto Networks also offers Cortex XDR which is a detection, investigation, and response product that integrates network, endpoint, and cloud data.

The service seeks to automatically detect attacks using behavior analytics, accelerates investigations with automation, and stops attacks before damage is done through integration with existing enforcement points.

Meanwhile, its Traps endpoint protection and response includes a Behavioral Threat Protection engine that stops advanced threats in real-time through data collection sensors to identify malicious activity.

Customers can use the product to extend their prevention capabilities to include detection and response across their entire digital infrastructure with a single agent.

“What we are trying to do is detection and response for endpoint only. So we are expanding to cover not just the endpoints but the rest of possible entry points in organizations,” Lainez said.

The firm’s Country Manager Oscar Visaya said it intends to work with telecommunication companies to ensure cybersecurity protection in the country.

He said one of the challenges in ensuring the security and protection of vital information in the country is the lack of skilled manpower in cybersecurity.

“The reason why cybersecurity is difficult is the lack of skilled staff. The complexity needs skilled people to be able to manage it or they need a revolutionary product or approach to be able to manage it,” Visaya noted.

Palo Alto Networks is a multinational cybersecurity firm with its headquarters based in Santa Clara, California.

It offers various security platforms which include advanced firewalls and cloud-based offerings that extend those firewalls to cover other aspects of security.  (PNA)
