DUMAGUETE CITY – A father died after he tried but failed to save his son from drowning at the Niludhan Falls in Barangay Dawis, Bayawan City in south Negros Oriental on Monday morning.

A report from the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) identified the fatalities as Neal Oliver Anito Caraig, 47, married, a teacher of the Bayawan National High School, and resident of Barangay Caranoche, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental; and his son, Zacchariah Aberia Caraig, 21, single, and a graduate of mechanical engineering.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victims went for an outing with other family members to the Niludhan Falls.

While swimming, Zacchariah reportedly panicked and shouted for help as he was drowning.

The father immediately came to rescue his son but both of them drowned instead.

Both were declared dead on arrival around 12 noon at the Bayawan District Hospital in Bayawan City. (PNA)
