CEBU CITY -- The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) arrested at dawn Tuesday a dismissed policeman for possession of shabu and drug paraphernalia, the chief of police said Wednesday.

Col. Julian Entoma, chief of the MCPO, said a police team flagged down a taxi that passed by a Comelec checkpoint along Plaridel Street in said city and after checking on the passenger identified as Rodrigo Francisco Morados, collared the latter.

Policemen manning the checkpoint saw Morados tossing something out of the window of the taxi when it was flagged down. The police later found out that it was a small sachet containing suspected shabu.

The authorities also seized from Morados’ possession three pieces of aluminum tin foil strip and a disposable lighter.

The suspect is now detained at the MCPO detention cell while his arresting officers prepare a complaint for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 against him.

Police record shows that Morados, who held the rank of Police Officer 3 (staff sergeant), was assigned at the Provincial Public Safety Company based in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, before his dismissal more than three years ago.

No information was given as to the reason for his dismissal but the police suspect that he has since then ventured into the illegal drug trade. (PNA)
