SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao -- A manhunt has been launched against suspected members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) tagged in the roadside bombing that injured a policeman late Sunday in Ampatuan town.

Police Brig. Gen. Graciano Mijares, director of the Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO-BARMM), said he had already ordered Maguindanao police to coordinate with the military in finding the suspects in the blast that injured Police Corporal Aratuc Balabagan.

Balabagan and his companions were returning to the police headquarters of Ampatuan town when the roadside bomb went off around 8 p.m. Sunday near a militia base in Barangay Kauran, Ampatuan.

Balabagan and his colleagues had just completed a field investigation involving an earlier attack on a militia detachment in Barangay Kauran at the time of the incident.

Mijares said he had ordered Police Col. Ronald Briones, Maguindanao police director, to implement measures to thwart any attack by rebels and other lawless groups. (PNA)
