Holy Week observance in BARMM, Region 12 'generally peaceful'

COTABATO CITY -- Police said the observance of the Holy Week in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) was generally peaceful and orderly.

Police Brig. Gen. Graciano Mijares, Police Regional Office in BARMM (PRO-BARMM), said Monday that there was no major untoward incident that occurred during the Holy Week throughout the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi and the cities of Cotabato, Marawi and Lamitan.

PRO-BARMM deployed policemen in churches, shrines and other public places like shopping malls, terminals, airports and seaports during the Holy Week. The law enforcers were backed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Officials said there was no letup in the manhunt against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) during the Lent.

Meanwhile, Police Brig. Gen. Eliseo Tam Rasco, Police Regional Office-12 (PRO-12), said the Holy Week observance in his area of jurisdiction was also peaceful.

PRO-12 covers the provinces of North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and the cities of Cotabato, Kidapawan, Tacurong, Koronadal and General Santos. (PNA)
