CEBU CITY – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is in immediate need of 1,000 female nurses for its different government hospitals.

Evelia Durato, chief of the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) Regional Center for Visayas, told the Philippine News Agency on Friday that they are now accepting applicants who must have at least two years of professional experience.

“The job order for registered nurses is directly from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health. Interested nurses in the Visayas can submit their applications here at the POEA-Visayas office or during the Labor Day jobs fair,” Durato said.

The Labor Day local and overseas jobs fair in Cebu will be held on May 1, Wednesday, at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall.

Durato said nurses are in demand these days not only in Saudi Arabia, but in the United Kingdom (U.K.), Bahrain, Kuwait, and Germany as well.

Last April 4 and 5, more than 100 nurses were interviewed here in Cebu by representatives of the German federal government for job placements in Germany.

“However, we have yet to receive word from Germany on who among the 102 interviewees will be likely hired and be given a free, six-month German language training,” said Durato.

She added that some private recruitment agencies likewise have job orders for 170 nurses also for KSA, 875 for U.K., 200 for the King Hamad University Hospital in Bahrain, and four nurses for a care clinic in Kuwait.

“Nurses are very much in demand. In fact, one of our prominent hospitals in Cebu is also in need of 100 nurses,” Durato said in Cebuano.

Those interested in landing a nursing job in Cebu City hospitals are advised to go to the jobs fair for possible employment.

Meanwhile, other overseas job opportunities available during the Labor Day jobs fair include more than 4,000 factory workers for different semiconductor companies in Taiwan, more than 200 restaurant workers for the Kuwait Food Company, and 33 swimming instructors, 23 sports trainors, and 20 lifeguards for the United Arab Emirates.
