LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Former Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III congratulated the province for its environmental campaign, especially on preserving the cleanliness of the seas during Wednesday’s Pista’y Dayat here,  the thanksgiving festival celebrated every May 1 for an abundant harvest from the sea.

Some of the senatorial candidates of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), including Pimentel and former Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go joined this year’s Pista’y Dayat (Sea Festival).

“Congratulations to Pangasinan. Let us continue to give importance to the bodies of water, especially the seas. Let us continue to protect our environment for a continuous bounty,” said Pimentel in his speech.

Go, who was accompanied by actors Philip Salvador, Robin Padilla and Bayani Agbayani, clarified they intended to participate in the annual festivity and not to campaign.

He sang songs together with Padilla and Salvador that garnered applause from the crowd.

“As an adopted son of Pangasinan, I am here to celebrate with you,” he said.

Go also took the opportunity to ask Pangasinenses to continue supporting President Rodrigo Duterte’s fight against illegal drugs and corruption.

“Keep away from drugs. With drugs, it is as if your one foot is already in the grave, so keep away from it,” he said.

Aside from Pimentel and Go, former Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa; Political Adviser on Political Affairs Francis Tolentino; and Senator Sonny Angara, among others, were also present in the event.

A Misa na Pasasalamat (Thanksgiving Mass) was held prior to the Pista’y Dayat commemorative program, and the Dulang (long table) boodle fight led by Governor Amado Espino III and other provincial officials.

Pista’y Dayat 2019 was started on April 5 alongside the Agew na Pangasinan (Pangasinan Foundation Anniversary) on April 5.

The month-long celebration featured Art and Photo Exhibit; Hip Hop Dance competition; Boat Painting competition; Limgas na Pangasinan; and different beach activities such as beach volleyball competition, paragliding, sand sculpting competition, triathlon, among others. (PNA)
