ZAMBOANGA CITY -- An alleged member of the Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was arrested in a law enforcement operation in this city, a top police official said Friday.

Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, identified the alleged ASG bandit as Uring Akil, who is also listed as the "top most wanted person" in Isabela City, Basilan.

Licup said Akil was arrested through a warrant of arrest around 11:45 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Fatima subdivision, Barangay Boalan.

Licup said Akil has a standing warrant of arrest for drug-related charges with no recommended bail.

He said that Akil, a resident of Menzi, Isabela City, Basilan, is a follower of Basilan-based ASG leader Furuji Indama and member of the Anjawani “gun for hire group”.

Akil was taken to the office of the Regional Intelligence Unit-9 for proper disposition. (PNA)
