MANILA -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) remains apolitical and non-partisan.
AFP chief-of-staff, Gen. Benjamin Madrigal made this assurance during the ceremonial send-off ceremonies for military, police and government contingents tasked to secure the May 13 mid-term elections Tuesday.
"Along this line, let me assure all of you that the AFP shall remain apolitical and non-partisan, just that the President continuously reminds the defense force to be neutral, we in the AFP will heed only to mandate, and our loyalty remains to the flag alone," he said.
The ceremonial send-off ceremony was held at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
"Likewise, we shall also fully support and ensure the implementation of the gun ban as we promote a peaceful and non-violent conduct of the elections. With all the challenges ahead, we assure that the AFP would always be faithful and dedicated defenders of peace and your reliable partner in this political exercise," Madrigal said.
To ensure that the May 13 polls will be peaceful and orderly, the AFP chief said the military and Philippine National Police will do everything they can to secure the elections and provide all possible land, air, and water craft and communication assets in support of the Commission on Elections (Comelec)'s implementation of the election laws.
"I would like to challenge every soldier, policeman, public servant and our fellow Filipinos to work together and remain vigilant during this crucial time in our history," the AFP chief added. (PNA)
