MANILA – The Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) will conduct in La Union province a three-day seminar aimed at promoting research on Philippine culture, in public and private elementary and high schools nationwide.

The May 9-11 Pambansang Seminar sa Saliksik Pangkultura to be held at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University is a first for KWF and will cover the basics of research to help teachers and students undertake cultural studies, noted Einzoely Agcaoili, the agency’s project coordinator.

“Teachers who’ll join the seminar this week will learn how to do research using the Filipino language,” she said.

She said teachers will then impart to students how to conduct cultural studies as well as using Filipino.

The 1987 Philippine Constitution designated Filipino as the country’s national language.

Aside from daily conversation, KWF said Filipino can also be used in research and various disciplines like engineering and medicine.

Among topics KWF set for discussion in Pambansang Seminar sa Saliksik Pangkultura are ethics and philosophy of research, approaches to research, and strategies for teaching research. The seminar will include a workshop.

“There’ll be demo teaching also,” Agcaoili said.

She said the seminar can accommodate up to 130 teachers including those who would register as walk-in participants. (PNA)
